Origin and History

The regiment was raised as the “Royal Highlanders” on October 17 1761 by Colonel Hamilton.

During the Seven Years' War, the regiment was under the command of:

  • from October 1761 to 1763: Colonel James Inglis Hamilton.

The regiment was disbanded in 1763.

Service during the War

The regiment served as a depot for sending drafts to Highland regiments serving overseas.
