French Lower Rhine Army on August 28 1757
On August 28, 1757, the French Lower Rhine Army was under the command of the Duc de Richelieu. Overall, it counted 149 bns, 159 sqns, 4 artillery bns and 4 light units.
Field Army
The French Lower Rhine Field Army, excluding garrisons and corps on the march, counted 95 bns, 102 sqns, 2 artillery bns and 3 light units (volontaires); thus totalling approx. 50,000 foot and artillery, 12,500 horse and 1,500 light troops for a grand total of approx. 64,000. It included:

On the same day a total of 54 bns, 57 sqns, 2 artillery bns and 1 light unit were in garrison duties or approaching Halberstadt:
- in Celle (4 sqns, 2 light troops detachments (150 foot and 200 dragoons))
- in Hanover or on their way to the city (6 bns, 4 sqns, 1 artillery bn)
- in Brunswick and Wolfenbüttel (6 bns, 6 sqns)
- on the march towards Halberstadt (3 bns, 6 sqns, 1 light unit)
- in Hesse (7 bns, 17 sqns)
- in East Frisia, Westphalia and Rheinland (32 bns, 20 sqns, 1 artillery bn)
