Introduction

The following order of battle is extracted from the work of Christian Rogge: "The French & Allied Armies in Germany during the Seven Years War".

French Lower Rhine Army - Mid September 1757

In Mid September 1757, the French Lower Rhine Army, commanded by the Maréchal de Richelieu, consisted of:

  • 105 infantry bns:
    • 72 bns with the Main Body
    • 7 bns with Voyer's Vanguard
    • 8 bns with d'Armentières Corps
    • 10 bns with Chevreuse Corps
    • 8 bns detached
  • 3 artillery bns (with the Main Body)
  • 132 cavalry sqns (including Gendarmerie, heavy cavalry, dragoons and hussars):
    • 65 sqns with the Main Body
    • 15 sqns with Voyer's Vanguard
    • 22 sqns with d'Armentières Corps
    • 20 sqns with Chevreuse Corps
    • 10 sqns detached
  • 3 light troop units
    • 1 units with Voyer's Vanguard
    • 1 unit with Chevreuse Corps
    • 1 unit detached

During the same period, other troops were detached in garrison duties or guarding against Cumberland:

  • 44 infantry bns:
    • 4 bns opposing Cumberland
    • 8 bns in Hesse
    • 4 bns in East Frisia
    • 8 bns in the Electorate of Hannover
    • 6 bns in Westfalen
    • 14 bns in Rheinland
  • 1 artillery bn in the Electorate of Hannover
  • 27 cavalry sqns (including Gendarmerie, heavy cavalry, dragoons and hussars):
    • 4 sqns opposing Cumberland
    • 5 sqns in Hesse
