Key to the map:

1. British abatis manned by Provincial infantry and picquets.
2. Johnson sends 2 grenadier coys and 150 men of the 46th Foot to reinforce the troops guarding the abatis.
3. An Iroquois war party, who initially opened a parley with the Native American warriors allied to the French, but soon started skirmishing.
4. Farquhar takes position at the tail of the trenches in case the French garrison should make a sally.
5. A party of volunteers assembles to sally and destroy the siege works. But the seemingly abandoned trenches are thronged with men and the attempt is given up.
6. De Lignery’s troops in column, accompanied by Natives American allies.
7. The French emerge into a clearing and deploy in line.
8. After decisive British volleys the French break and flee, chased by the British.
