French Army of Italy

The Franco-Spanish army had entrenchments had entrenchments on the Lower Oglio from Torre d'Oglio to Gazzuolo. By the end of the campaign, each battalion counted an average of 300 men and each squadron, 100 men. Overall, Villeroy had some 21,300 foot and 8,000 horse under his command.

Summary: 71 bns and 80 sqns (excluding Spanish troops)

  • Cremona: 12 bns and 12 sqns under Maréchal de Villeroy seconded by the Comte Revel, the Marquis de Crénan, Albergotti, the Comte Mongon, the Comte Praslin (commanding the cavalry), d'Arènes (commanding the infantry)
  • between the Oglio and the Po: 23 bns and 12 sqns under the Marquis de Créqui seconded by Cavoye and Villiers
  • in the Duchy of Milan: Spanish troops under Prince Charles de Vaudémont seconded by Saint-Frémont and the Spanish Brigadier du Guast
  • in Montferrat: 30 sqns under the Marquis de Barbezières seconded by Asfeld
  • in Alessandria: 14 sqns under the Marquis de Vaubécourt seconded by the Marquis de Bissy and the Comte Murcey
  • in the Duchy of Mantua: 19 bns and 12 sqns under the Comte de Tessé seconded by Zurlauben including:
    • 3 bns in Goito
    • 1 Spanish bn and 1 Mantuan bn in Mantua
  • in Pavia: 3 bns
  • in Lodi: 7 bns
  • in Pizzighettone: 2 bns
  • in Soncino: 2 bns
  • on the Upper Adda: 3 bns

Spanish Army of Italy

The Spanish army operating in Italy consisted of:

  • Spanish infantry (6 bns in 3 rgts for a total of 2,100 men)
  • Neapolitan infantry (2 bns in 2 rgts for a total of 900 men)
  • Lombardian infantry (1 bn in 1 rgt for a total of 800 men)
  • Grison infantry (1 bn in 1 rgt for a total of 600 men)
  • German infantry (2 bns in 2 rgts for a total of 1,200 men)
  • Cavalry (4 rgts for a total of 2,000 men)
