Description
Ferdinand Albert was the fourth son of Ferdinand Albert I of Braunschweig-Bevern and of Christine von Hessen-Eschwege.
In 1687, Ferdinand Albert succeeded to his father at the head of the Principality of Braunschweig-Bevern.
From the outbreak of the War of the Spanish Succession, Ferdinand Albert campaigned with the Imperial Army in Swabia and Bavaria.
In 1702, Ferdinand Albert was promoted to colonel and general-adjutant of Emperor Leopold I.
On 2 July 1704, Ferdinand Albert took part in the Battle of Schellenberg. He was later severely wounded during the siege of Landau.
In 1707, Ferdinand Albert was promoted to major-general.
From 1709 until 1735, he was proprietor of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel Infantry.
In 1711, Ferdinand Albert was promoted to Feldmarschallleutnant.
In 1712, Ferdinand Albert married his cousin, Antoinette Amalia von Blankenburg, the sister-in-law of Emperor Charles VI. They would have 15 children.
In 1716, Ferdinand Albert was promoted to Feldzeugmeister and appointed governor of the Fortress of Komorn (present-day Komarom/HU). He then fought against the Turks, distinguishing himself at Peterwardein, at the siege of Temesvár and at Belgrade.
In 1723, Ferdinand Albert was promoted to promoted Austrian field marshal. The same year, he married his daughter to Frederick II of Prussia.
In 1727, Ferdinand Albert was promoted to Feldzeugmeister of the Reichsarmee.
In 1734, Ferdinand Albert was promoted to Field Marshal of the Reichsarmee. The same year, he fought under the command of Prince Eugène de Savoie on the Upper Rhine.
In 1735, after his cousin's death, Ferdinand Albert became duke of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel.
Duke Ferdinand Albert died on 13 September 1735.
