Origin and History

This Swiss regiment was raised in 1704 by Colonel Tscharner from troops recruited in the region of Berne. Queen Anne of Great Britain contributed to the equipment and maintenance of the regiment who received the name of “La Regina” or “La Reyne” in her honour.

In 1706, the regiment incorporated the men from Alt Infantry a regiment raised in 1704 in the region of Fribourg in Switzerland. In April of the same year, La Regina Infantry was in its turn incorporated into Ghidt Infantry.

At its creation, the regiment counted one battalion and was under the command of:

  • since 1704 until 1706: Colonel Tscharner
