Origin and History

A first regiment named "Labour Infanterie" (aka Labourd) had been raised during the Nine Years’ War (1688-97), on 4 October 1692 by Antoine de la Vovre, Marquis or Comte de Tourouvre. In 1693, it had joined the Army of Italy and taken part in the Battle of the Marsaglia. In 1696 and 1697, it had campaigned on the Rhine. At the end of the war, in 1697, the regiment had been disbanded.

A new regiment, named "Labour Infanterie," was raised on 22 June 1701 by Claude-Alexandre Chevalier de Bonneval.

During the War of the Spanish Succession, the regiment was commanded by

  • from 22 June 1701: Claude-Alexandre, Chevalier de Bonneval (Comte de Bonneval at the death of his elder brother in 1705, sentenced in absentia in 1707)
  • from 16 June 1706: Georges Rémond, Seigneur de Bréviandes (former lieutenant-colonel of the regiment

On 7 October 1714, the regiment was incorporated into Orléans Infanterie.

Service during the War

In 1701, the first battalion of the regiment served with the Army of Italy. On 15 August, it was at the Battle of Luzzara.

In 1703, the first battalion took part in the expedition in Tirol.

In 1704, the first battalion took part in the sieges of Vercelli, Ivrea and Verrua.

On 16 August 1705, the first battalion was at the Battle of Cassano.

In 1706, the first battalion took part in the siege and battle of Turin.

In 1707, the regiment joined the Army of Dauphiné. On 25 April, a battalion of the regiment took part in the decisive 1707-04-25 – Battle of Almansa in Spain.

In 1708, the regiment joined the Army of the Rhine.

In 1709, the regiment returned to Dauphiné.

In 1710, the regiment served once more on the Rhine.

From 1711 to 1713, the regiment was stationed in Dauphiné.

The second battalion seems to have campaigned in Flanders and on the Rhine.
