Origin and History
This Piedmontese regiment was created on 26 September 1690 by Philippe-Marie de Montroux with soldiers from disbanded Piedmontese regiments.
In 1691, during the Nine Years' War (1688-97), the regiment was allocated to the Army of Flanders and took part in the siege of Mons. In 1693, it participated in the capture of Huy, in the Battle of Landen and in the siege of Charleroi. It then served in Flanders until the end of the war.
During the War of the Spanish Succession, the regiment was commanded by:

The regiment was disbanded on 15 July 1715.
Service during the War
In 1701, the regiment was allocated to the Army of Flanders.
In 1702, the regiment served with the Army of the Rhine.
In February and March 1703, the regiment was at the Siege of Kehl. In August and September, it took part in the Siege of Alt-Breisach. In October and November, it was at the Siege of Landau.
In 1704, the regiment served with the Army of Bavaria. On 13 August, it took part in the disastrous Battle of Blenheim.
In 1705, the regiment was transferred to the Army of Flanders.
On 23 May 1706, the regiment fought in the Battle of Ramillies.
On 11 July 1708, the regiment fought in the Battle of Oudenarde. It then distinguished itself in the Combat of Hondscoote where, alone, it defeated 2 infantry regiments and 1 British cavalry regiment, killing 200 men, taking 1,000 prisoners (including 2 colonels and 36 officers) and capturing 8 colours and 2 standards.
On 11 September 1709, the regiment took part in the Battle of Malplaquet. It was then placed in garrison in Hesdin.
